I reviewed Focus a few months ago and was really surprised at just how much buzz and excitement there was before its release. I’m glad that some of that hype has died down a little bit before I had the chance to review its sister title Refocus. That said, it’s just picked up every gay porn award known to man, so suffice it to say that there are still a lot of interested consumers and fans out there.
Raging Stallion Studios really came out swingin’ with this title. Their take on old style Hollywood film noir genre juxtaposed with modern and unique aesthetic elements in areas like cinematography was destined to leave an impact even before it was released.
The story follows Joe Wilder (Cole Streets) on a whirlwind sexual adventure through a strange, criminal underworld. There are some great sets, an incredible cast of RSS exclusives (including last year’s RSS Man of the Year David Taylor) and no less than three directors that oversaw the production. In quite an interesting move, they also employed professional (non-porn) actor Joe Wicht to play a police interrogator to really give the feature a bit more class.
As I mentioned when I first visited the double feature, RSS are really hanging their hopes on their use of P.O.V. (point of view) footage. Streets’ character is an amateur videographer in the film, a function that allows for the incorporation of the amateur-style shooting of sex scenes. The actors take control of what you see in some parts, in an attempt to make the sex seem more intimate than a simple sex scene from a studio-produced film. This footage is cross cut with HD cameras filming in a normal style of cinematography fusing the two formats of reality and fantasy at the same time.
Andrew Grande — AKA porn star Dustin Michaels — has died during the early morning hours of Saturday, Dec. 12, when police in Panama City tasered him while attempting to arrest him.
TheAdvocate.com reports that Grande had apparently gotten into an argument with a female friend and when they arrived, Grande reportedly tried to swallow a plastic bag of marijuana. He was then tasered and immediately beginning to choke, reaching down his own throat to try and dislodge the bag and frantically trying to signal his predicament to the officers. I suppose it was bound to happen sometime, and it was no surprise that Raging Stallion Studios was the one to bring out the big-budget sci-fi gay porn. If you’re going to do it, you might as well do it well, and RSS certainly have the resources to pull something like this off with the right balance between tongue-in-cheek humor and a level of dedication to the fantasy genre.
Who better to play a visiting alien on earth’s gay scene than Logan McCree? He’s a performer who seems to be from another world most of the time anyway. His tattoos certainly lend themselves to the role, along with that lost and curious look he often pulls (maybe it’s just his inner-German he’s channelling).
You’ve got to give kudos where kudos is due, and Raging Stallion Studios deserves it for their unwavering ability to come up stylish porn. The hilariously titled Port Of Entry seems straight forward enough: it’s got the striking David Taylor as its cover model in one of the most stunning shots I’ve seen of him (which is saying something given his good looks) and with an ensemble that also features Logan McCree and Tristan Jaxx along with him, it’s got plenty going for it already.
But behind the traditional artwork and list of RSS exclusives, is quite a groundbreaking porno. It’s important to mention that this isn’t one of RSS’ big budget set pieces like Arabesque or The Visitor. That isn’t to say it isn’t worthy of your attention, if anything it’s proof that the popular studio doesn’t need a sweeping epic to garner your interest.
Think of Port of Entry as a release from Raging Stallion’s art house division and you’re on the right track. Inspired by Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Querelle (a 1982 film about a handsome sailor who’s also a thief and murderer) this release is a must-see if only that it’s the closest to avant-garde gay porn (complete with appropriate soundtrack) on the market – and it’s hot.
Up first is McCree as a creepy card-carrying vagrant, keen to put his deck to work on a game of chance with David V. Things turn out well apparently and McCree takes off his long coat to reveal that famous tattooed body. There’s some very erotic nipple-play between these two that’ll really get you in the mood for the forthcoming action – it’s a seriously underused bit of foreplay in porn, if you ask me. Then they grope at each other’s cocks through their pants before whipping them out for some mutual petting.
UK Naked Men is fast becoming my new favorite site. The presence of Matt Hughes in their newest video may have had something to do with that glowing appraisal.
